5th November 2019:

This was our 2nd visit to the cottage, just as good as our 1st stay. We had a quiet weekend as the weather wasn’t on our side, but we did manage a few walks in between the showers. But you can just sit and relax in the cottage, very peaceful and lovely surroundings. Hopefully we will return at some point next year. And thanks to Derek for allowing us to arrive a bit earlier, much appreciated, and thanks also for the beer and fudge

Tips:

Try Andersons for food, very good but book your table, gets very busy. Great place for walks or take your bike, plenty to do and see.

Very much appreciate your review. Returning guests, like yourselves, are the best kind of feedback that we are providing what people want from a stay in the Highlands. So, thanks again for coming back! We plan to do much more to promote other great local produce, not just the fantastic local beer and fudge.

Excellent, well appointed, eco friendly cottage in beautiful, quiet location. Big windows overlooking forest garden, views to the mountains beyond, walks from the doorstep through the forest to the village, Speyside Way and other forest walks. The owner was very informative and helpful.

Tips:

Great place to relax, watch the garden wildlife, go for walks, cycling and a good base for getting to other villages, nature reserves and attractions in the area. It was a real treat to see red squirrels in the garden! The cottage has been renovated to a high standard and we were pleased to stay in such eco friendly accomodation.

A wonderful homely cottage set in beautiful woodlands. Our family of 5 loved the cottage. It was warm and clean with a modern kitchen and bathroom. Communication with the owner was faultless. Our 3 children really enjoyed the wild garden and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching them! Safe place to lock our bikes. We will definitely be back to stay.

Tips:

The cottage is on the Speyside way and so you can cycle straight to Aviemore along Route 7. Great tea and cakes served at the Route 7 Cafe when you arrive in Aviemore. We ate at The Boat Inn one evening. Great food and easy walk from the cottage. The woods behind the cottage our fabulous to explore. You can walk/jog through the woods to the village and the wee shop sells delicious croissants and pain au chocolate every morning. The steam train from Boat of Garten to Aviemore was great fun, although too short a ride! Cycle around Loch Morlich was beautiful with a great cafe at the boathouse at the beach. The highlight of the trip was walking up see/feed/stroke the Reindeer. You need to arrive at the Reindeer Centre in Glenmore at 10am to book your space on this memorable trip.

Fantastically equipped and located cottage in beautiful Speyside. We enjoyed our time here immensely both the ease of nearby walking, cycling and other stuff (eating and drinking!), and the such a great place to come back to relax even more. You should definitely come here!

Tips:

Both Anderson’s and the Boat are good places to eat. We loved walking and cycling the Spey way (to/from Aviemore, Loch Garten and Nethy Bridge). Strathspey train for Sunday lunch was a treat and further afield the Macallan distillery is a fascinating visit. For golfers Boat of Garten course is a real gem.

22nd August 2019:

Wonderful welcoming cottage, we felt right at home from walking into the cottage. Clean with plenty of space and wonderful views the cottage had everything needed. We saw deer in the garden and become avid bat watches at dusk every night (counted 41 one night). There are plenty of walks from the cottage and the woods through the back gate are wonderful and peaceful. The Boat serves good food and the local shops come in handy too. Would love to come back in the autumn/winter to see how the scenery changes but would also love to come in the summer/spring too! We will definitely be back cannot recommend highly enough. Also like the eco products and have looked into buying these myself.

Tips:

An Lochan Uaine (Green Loch) Truly amazing cannot recommend highly enough. Strathspey Railway - A wonderful way to relax after all the walking and see the countryside.

A return visit to Glencolden and it was equally as perfect at the previous stay. Our niece joined us for her first visit to Scotland and was stunned by the beauty. Thank you to the owner for sharing the cottage with us all.

1st August 2019:

A lovely location for a fantastic holiday cottage. The owner has created a very special cottage with modern facilities, while still remaining homely. A perfect base for exploring the Cairngorms. If you have an interest in wildlife, we saw rabbits, roe deer and a red squirrel from the cottage, as well as many different bird species.

Tips:

RSPB Loch Garden is a few miles away and well worth a visit. Andersons Restaurant and the Boat Inn provide good food (but book for the former). The Strathspey Steam Railway is worth investigating. Further afield, there are so many places to explore. We will be back.

2nd April 2019:

This is a brilliant cottage, bright spacious living area with great full length windows which allows plenty of light in. Great views from all window in property. Bedrooms are a good size, comfy bed which is good, normally we struggle with the beds in holidays lets. Well equipped kitchen everything you need for your stay. Must say the pictures do not do this property justice. If you are looking for a place to stay in the Boat Of Garden area, give Glencoldon a visit, it won’t disappoint

Tips:

From the cottage there are great walks to be had, or you can sit on the decking and watch the world go by. If you have a bike take it with you good cycling to be had in the ares. Good pair of walking/boots shoes. Have visited the area numerous times, past by Anderson’s restaurant many times, so decided to give it a go, food excellent, will certainly go back.

Our second stay at Glencoldon did not disappoint. We were previously here in August but this time made good use of the log burner. Excellent facilities and warm, welcoming cottage. Everything you might need such as dishwasher tablets are supplied. Fabulous location.

Tips:

We made the most of the many paths for walking directly accessible from the house. We walked to aviemore and had excellent coffee and lunch at Route 7 cafe. We walked round Loch Garten though RSPB Centre wasn’t yet open for the season. Excellent dinner at Anderson’s in the village (booking necessary)

Tips:

Stayed in the summer for a week, and when the opportunity came up for a short break we head backed here. So we have stayed Summer and Winter and its perfect. Was cosy and the wood stove lovely. Great base from which to walk, or cycle and also just to relax and enjoy the peace. Comfortable and would highly recommend. Love the Gold Green Tourism side of things too.

Tips:

Walks in the woods directly behind the cottage Cycle over the moor to Aviemore and get the train back! Cycle to Loch Vaa or Loch Garten. Mountain Café ( always a wait but they have buzzers so you can go off shoping whilst waiting) and also the new café in Tisos. ( has soft play if you have a younger family member!)

30th October 2018:

The cottage is in a great location which was very quiet. We didn't use any of the local amenities but there are two shops as well as a restaurant and local hotels. You can see the Strathspey Steam railway from the veranda on the house and hear it too if the doors are open. Well equipped house with everything that you could need. Plenty of instructions - though would be a good idea to put the instructions for kitchen appliances in the kitchen as we didn't find them until a couple of days after arriving in the TV Stand. Beds were very comfortable and lovely linen. The only negative thing for us was that it's booking from Friday to Friday which makes it difficult when you are travelling up from Essex as its a very long drive in one day. A beautiful cottage in a lovely place and you won't be disappointed.

Tips:

Fill up bird feeders with peanuts and seeds and you will see plenty of birds and the squirrel, who visited us every day.

Thanks for your kind review. Point taken regarding kitchen instructions, and although there is notice to where to find detailed instructions in visitor folder, we shouldn't assume everyone will notice - definitely handier to have in kitchen! Thanks too for comment on Fri-Fri booking - we haven't really had any feedback on that, despite our concern when we started. We realised there are pros and cons to this, but this was chosen for various reasons, including that it works well with long weekends, Fri-Mon; but not so well if driving from distance on a Fri evening I realise! If you plan to return anytime, please contact us first and we can see if we can work in some flexibility to that depending on other bookings. All the best!

13th September 2018:

We absolutely loved Glencoldon Cottage. The house is situated in a beautiful, quiet location but still very near to the village with shopping facilities. It has everything we needed, plus more, for a comfortable stay. The owners clearly took a lot of trouble to renovate the cottage according to high, ecologically friendly standards, but the cottage still has that authentic country look that makes you feel welcome and at home. The garden is lovely to look at and even more fun and adventurous for children to play in. We could have stayed here for much longer!

Tips:

Boat of Garten is a great location to explore the Cairngorms National Park. Nature is all around you: impressive pinewoods, high mountains and beautiful lochs. There are a lot of places you can go for hiking; at the numerous visitors centres you can find starting points for walks of different levels. Loch Ness is easily accessible from Boat of Garten, and don't forget to visit Culloden Moor near Inverness if you're interested in the history of the Highland culture. The Highland Folk Museum at Newtonmore is also a lovely and interesting place to visit.

Beautifully renovated house on edge of village. Everything you could possibly need and more is provided. Great views, cosy and bright. I do like it when basics such as dishwasher powder and toilet rolls are provided. We didn’t need the log burner but I’m sure it would be great in the cold. Good quality bed linens. Access to so many walking and cycling paths and an easy walk into village with 2 small but well stocked shops with everything you could want.

Beautiful cottage in a great location. Perfectly placed for walking into the surrounding woods or through the village and along the Spey - a map in the house details several trails. The garden was wonderful - we had red squirrel on the nut feeder, it was great to see so many siskins coming to the seed feeders and having breakfast on the balcony (with a cracking view) to the song of a willow warbler was lovely. There were lots of bees and butterflies in the garden - would love to be there when the heather is fully in flower.

Tips:

With numerous National Nature Reserves, mountains and valleys on the doorstep, we were spoilt for choice - too much to fit into just a week's holiday! The Post Office in Boat of Garten is well stocked and just a 5min walk from Glencoldon. Just Deli-cious in Grantown does great lunches (& really lovely cakes).

We have just spent a wonderful week at Glencoldon Cottage with our 4 and 1 year olds. The Cottage is finished to a very high standard and has everything you need for your stay in summer or winter. Excellent cottage, spotlessly clean, the furnishings were very comfortable. Every thing we needed was there and of good quality. The cottage is in an ideal position on the boundary of a forest and only a short drive or few minutes walk to the local village shop which sells most day to day requirements plus very good made up rolls, much too tempting pasties and tarts.

Tips:

Most of our favourite places are about wildlife but there are many places to suit all in the area. The Loch Garten Osprey visitor centre if Ospreys and wildlife are your thing, there is always an Osprey soap opera in summer. Not too long a drive away is Channonry point to see the Dolphins, if you hit a lucky day it can be spectacular. Another favourite is the Strathdearn valley following the river Findhorn. Chance of seeing Golden Eagles, Red dear, wild goats and hares. The coastal resort of Findhorn on the north coast has beautiful beaches. The Highland Wildlife Park is also worth a visit especially now to see the new baby Polar bear. Lochindorb just north of Grantown is a lovely peaceful loch to sit for a picnic and if lucky watch Ospreys fishing. I could go on. Don't miss the local fish & chip van which calls 5pm ish Thursday evenings down near the camp site. Always very good.

This property is in an excellent quiet location, very well furnished, warm and clean. There is a large garden with bird feeders and access to woodland to the rear. Tips:

There are nice walks around Boat of Garten and to Aviemore on the Speyside Way. The steam railway will be operating soon. 6th March 2018:

I was confused about how to pay the balance but once I realised I was not to initiate it, just respond when requested, it all worked fine. This was our first stay at Glencoldon and we loved it and have booked already to come back soon. All really 5 star and reluctantly I gave a 4 for facilities as there is no ensuite and only one shower, not one in the bathroom. All newly refurbished and lovely and even has a view to the hills, unusual for this side of Kinchurdy Road. Everything was spotless on arrival and the kitchen had everything we needed. Bed is comfy and there is space to unpack your things. Derek Panton is a friendly and very helpful host, readily available by email or phone, in the unlikely event you need help.

Tips:

The info that comes with your booking has all the info I could give. We love Anderson’s Restaurant and the 1896 Café. Andersons closed Tuesday I think and the cafe on Thursdays but Hotel bar and bistro are open. The PO is a great shop and very friendly. Great forest walks from the door and obviously all the attractions of the Cairngorms are nearby. All this and a totally peaceful location to stay in.

28th February 2018:

A fantastic lodge which had everything we wanted and more. Bright and airy in the day with great views but easy to make cosy by night. Really friendly owners who were genuinely hoping for us to have a great stay. The attention to detail, from the facilities in the lodge itself to the bird and squirrel feeders in the garden, was excellent and an obvious effort has been made to maximise the lodge's sustainability and eco-credentials. During our stay I proposed to my girlfriend at the nearby loch garten and now she's my fiance - you can't say fairer than that! Would 100% reccomend. Many thanks, Ste

Tips:

Anderson's restaurant was excellent and the walks through the woods to loch garten are fantastic. Speyside Wildlife's badger and pine marten hide is not to be missed!

Our pleasure! Thank you very much for the very kind review. And congratulations again! What a fantastic heart-warming story to fight off current polar chill! Feeling quite emotional about this ourselves...... We very much look forward to welcoming you back to stay any time!

20th February 2018:

Glencoldon is a lovely cottage in an excellent location, perfect for a family holiday in the Cairngorn national park. We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years in this area and this is up with the best of them. The owner is also most helpful and was very flexible in accommodating our request to allow a couple of extra family members who were visiting stay with us at Glencoldon. Look forward to our next visit!

28th October 2017:

The lodge was excellent overall. It's in a great location within walking distance of Boat of garden. The lodge itself is a very high standard with everything needed for a great holiday Scottish highlands. The lodge is an excellent size with amble space for 6 adults, the Wood burning stove was very nice in the lounge with a fully stocked log shed to the rear, new fitted kitchen With dishwasher etc. Overall very high standard.

Tips:

There is two eating places in the local town. The hotel and a resturant which we didn't try. A good cycle along the speyside way of 5 miles into the local town of aviemore with a good selection of pubs and shops. Plenty of tourist attractions and things within the Cairngorms.

22nd October 2017:

We visited as a family of four and had an amazing holiday. The house is beautifully located with fantastic views and stunning wild garden. We were lucky to see red squirrels and numerous birds at the feeding tables. Inside, the house is decorated with so many lovely Scottish touches and is fantastically equipped. Nice touch to have some local treats left for our arrival. The house has many walks at its doorstep including the speyside way. The local area has lots to do for all ages. Our hosts were very attentive. Would highly reccommend a stay here.

Tips:

Well stocked local shop. Fantastic restaurant called Andersons....amazing Scottish fayre, highly recommend you book. Too many walks and outdoor activities to mention but one stand out was the zip lining in Alvie Estate beside Kincraig. Mountain Cafe in Aviemore also great for soups coffees and cakes. Cairngorm Brewery def worth a visit and tour. £5 entry fee per person and the tasting experience along with the amazing stories from host Bruce is truly value for money.
