Chiddy Nook is a perfect hideaway cottage, comfortably furnished and decorated, and kitted out with everything you could possibly need for a relaxed break. A real home from home for people and dogs.

Tips:

It's worth climbing to the top of the Magnolia Walk at Abbotsbury Tropical Gardens for the view over Chesil Beach and beyond. Felicity's Farm Shop at Morcombelake is a great place to stock up on provisions.

Gingerbread Cottage is a Comfy and very cosy cottage. It has everything that you need for a great break in a wonderful area.

Tips:

Local pubs are in walking distance and serve great food. The Spar shop and post office is extremely well stocked. Bridport 3 miles away is a lovely market town with plenty of independent shops as well as the usual high street chains. And then there are the beaches. Such a choice all within 6 miles. For walking we loved Charmouth but for a seaside with sandy beaches and huts etc you must go to Lyme Regis. Heaven on earth.

Comfy, clean and welcoming with great outdoor space .

Tips:

Visit the village of Abbotsbury . The drive along the coast road to it is amazing . Good food at The Old Schoolhouse there . Dansel is a woodcraft gallery worthy of a visit . The Hive Cafe on the beach at Burton Bradstock is a bit pricey but the food is good .. Great walks ,countryside and beaches . Would advise staying in May or September as the traffic would be horrendous in the peak holiday months.

Jane and Laurie were the perelfect hosts. Very welcoming, there when you need them and lovely with our boys. Beautiful cottage - highly recommended.

Tips:

Cheaper options with kids - Lyme Cobb crab fishing (mackerel is best bait, from RNLI shop), fossil hunting at Charmouth and a walk up Golden Cap. More expensive options - dinner at Hix in Lyme. Well worth it!

We stayed at Gingerbread Cottage which is a lovely cottage ideally situated to explore Jurassic Coast and Dorset generally. The cottage is well equipped, sleeps 3 & has a private off road parking space. The owner, Jane, was very friendly & helpful. We were greeted with an excellent lemon drizzle cake, eggs & milk. We highly recommend this very comfortable holiday let.

Tips:

So much to see in the area. Bridport is a nice market Town - go on market day for added interest. Visit Portland Bill & enjoy the best crab sandwich at the Lobster Pot. We had two very pleasant evening meals at The George & also the Ilchester Arms at Symondsbury.

Thank you Jane & Laurie for another fantastic week at Chiddy Nook. The cottage was superb and the new kitchen was a lovely surprise even better than before. The goodies on arrival so welcome after our journey down and as always you cater for every need in the cottage. Lovely to see you both again and can't wait for our next visit which we have already booked.

Tips:

A perfect part of Dorset to go and see the beautiful views and explore the beaches and pretty villages. There are superb pubs in walking distance and a little village shop for everyday items. We had a fantastic walk to the beach at Seatown from the cottage. We also enjoy fossil hunting along Charmouth beach and walking around the historic Cobb at Lyme Regis. This time we also visited the Museum in Dorchester to see Dippy the Dinosaur currently displayed there and also at Charmouth Heritage Centre there is the Ichthyosaur as seen on tv's Attenborough and the Sea Dragon. We also enjoyed a wander around Bridport street market on Saturdays and Wednesday mornings and of course a Cream Tea is always a must in Abbotsbury. A truly fantastic and beautiful part of England to stay and explore.

Overall very satisfied with our stay and all facilities, the welcome pack was a nice thought and appreciated, however, a larger TV in the lounge at Gingerbread Cottage would be more suitable for the size of the room.

Tips:

West Bay is our favourite. Nice harbour area, pubs, restaurants, cafe's,ice cream, lovely beaches and amazing walks and views. Lyme Regis and Beer are very nice and the caves at Beer are also interesting. Bridport on market days are worth visiting as is Portland Bill and Dorchester.

3rd September 2017:

The cottage was easy to find as it is just off the main road through Dorset. On arrival, cottage was welcoming and very clean. Some lovely gingerbread men and homemade bread to greet us too. Bedrooms were well presented, very comfortable beds. Plenty of bath and beach towels. Well resourced and a lovely relaxing break for myself, my husband and 8 year old son.

Tips:

Clockhouse pub is literally over the road, good food. The George is good, but be prepared that Thursday Pizza night gets very busy. Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door is stunning. Lyme Regis is lovely beach and seaside town. West Bay has good fossils, but slightly disappointing harbour. Bridport market is good, but busy.

A fantastic week at Chiddy Nook. Jane and Laurie are wonderful hosts. They were so welcoming and friendly we felt as though we were staying at a friends cottage. Everything was thought of and catered for. It was everything you could hope for and more. The homemade cake and bread and jam on arrival was so welcoming after our journey down. Thank you Jane and Laurie for a wonderful time at Chiddy Nook.

Tips:

As always an enjoyable walk along Charmouth beach fossil hunting. Lyme Regis with The Cobb is a must and do try the Mini Golf there, loads of fun for all and spectacular views of the coastline. Thomas Harry's Cottage at Higher Bockhampton is worth a visit with a lovely woodland walk to get to it from the visitors centre. On the route back to Chideock take the coast road towards Abbotsbury and visit Admiral Thomas Harry's Monument. There are 120 steps to climb but the views from the top are spectacular. Then on your way again Portesham is a pretty village and then onto Abbotsbury another very pretty village, stopping at The Old SchoolHouse Tea Rooms for an afternoon Cream Tea is perfect. The Swannery is also a good place to visit but can be pricey for a family so check online discounts about a week before your trip. The coast drive from Abbotsbury to Bridport is spectacular and The Three Horseshoes pub in Burton Bradstock is also worth a visit. Bridport Market on Saturday and Wednesday Mornings is great for looking at all sorts. Chideock itself has the George Inn, fantastic Sunday lunch and Pizza night on Thursdays. The Clock Inn also good for a meal and the hosts very welcoming. You can walk from Chideock down to Seatown a pebble beach with lovely views of the Golden Cap.Mangerton Mill just outside Bridport was a good place for a lovely lunch and very good value, the Mill is interesting and there are a couple of craft shops and a lake to walk around but be careful as it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays currently. Our daughter who is 10 also loved The Donkey Sanctuary. It is all free of charge no admission or parking charge they just have donation boxes on various walls and fences where you can donate as little or as much as you wish. There really is so much to do and see, we can't wait to go back to lovely Chideock.
